The legendary speed shop, Holman Moody, is again teaming with Ford Motor Company to offer a limited-edition 2014 Mustang. This exclusive Mustang, of which only 500 will be built, celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Mustang's first race victory in 1964. In recognition of this special occasion, Holman Moody is offering an upgrade package that will make your 2014 Mustang a star on and off the track, with your manufacturer's warranty still intact.
The First Mustang Race Win
The Ford Mustang, which was introduced in mid-1964, was not only an instant sales success, but by September of that year, it had become an international race winner -- with the help of Holman & Moody. Three Ford Mustangs, enhanced with Holman Moody engines and performance parts upgrades, traveled to Europe to participate in the Tour de France (TdF) Automobile Rally. The Alan Mann Racing Team, which was based in England, took on the challenge of racing the Mustangs in this grueling ten days of hill climbs and road race competition. Just to finish the race would have been considered quite an accomplishment. However, by the end of the event, against all odds, two of the Mustangs upstaged their European rivals, coming in 1st and 2nd in their class. These Holman Moody-enhanced Mustangs were the first Mustangs to win a professional race.
The 2014 Holman Moody 50th Anniversary TdF
The 2014 Holman Moody 50th Anniversary TdF Mustang, which is readily distinguishable by its Race Red exterior paint, gold-colored wheels, and rocker panel stripe, uses the standard GT package as its foundation. But Holman & Moody adds an extra kick to the Coyote 5.0, normally-aspirated engine to rev up the horsepower to 444, with 460 ft./lb. of torque. Additionally, the engine's breathing is enhanced with stainless steel tubular headers and an X-pipe exhaust system; and since the car is intended to be aggressively driven, the radiator is upgraded to keep it cool. For handling, progressive lowering springs are added, along with a fully-adjustable suspension system. In summary, all the good stuff necessary to make the Mustang perform and handle better are included. These upgrades undoubtedly follow the Holman & Moody tradition of "Competition Proven." Also, Holman Moody provides special touches that only a car guy would appreciate. For example, how about that crude hood prop that always gets in the way when you're working in the engine compartment? Holman Moody has taken care of that little problem by adding gas struts to hold up the hood. Seems like an insignificant upgrade, but as a Holman representative said, "the customer shouldn't have to worry about the small stuff. We'll take care of that."
