Hot August Nights must have coined the phrase "celebration of classic cars," because this event is literally a 10-day no holds barred tribute to these 4-wheel wonders (2 days in Virginia City and 8 days in Reno-Sparks). Hundreds of thousands come to this event each year to revel in their love of the automobile, and there's little doubt that everyone is having the time of their life. From the spectators who are wowed by the creativity, design, and craftsmanship of these works of art, to the owners, who obviously have such pride in showcasing their dream car, it's impossible not to get caught up in their enthusiasm. If you don't already have a passion for classic cars, you will after spending a few days here. There's nothing quite like Hot August Nights, so we're here again in in Reno, the "Biggest Little City in the World." And now with Barrett-Jackson being an integral part of the event, the excitement is over the top.
There's so much to see and do, it is hard to know where to start. One of the first things we plan to do is stop by all the Show-n-Shines to scope out which vehicles will be among the 25 that will be chosen to vie for the coveted Barrett-Jackson Cup. In case you didn't know, the B-J Cup, which is only in its third year at Hot August Nights, has already become one of the largest prize packages offered in a classic car competition, with over $100,000 in cash and prizes. The competition begins on Wednesday and will continue through Friday, August 7. The final five, otherwise known as the "Reno 5," along with the Ultimate Best of Show, will be announced at the closing of Barrett-Jackson's auction on Saturday night.
Need some more excitement? Barrett-Jackson's auction will be held at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center August 6 - August 8, drag races and burnouts will be held at the Nugget Casino in Sparks each night from 6 p.m. until midnight, beginning August 5 and continuing through August 8, and Cruise Ins are scheduled every night of the event at several of the casinos in the area.
