Warm temperatures and sunny skies ushered in the Second Annual Pinehurst Concours d'Elegance. The field of 119 cars included celebrity cars, such as a 1963 Chevrolet Impala SS stock car formally driven by Junior Johnson, the iconic Mongoose and Snake Hot Wheels drag cars, the 1963 Harley Earl Corvette, and Steve McQueen's 1956 Jaguar XKSS. To mark the 40th anniversary of the Porsche Turbo model and the 50th anniversary of the original Pony Car, there were a stellar group of whale tail Porsches and Mustangs, including several Shelbys, on the field. Brass era cars, flamboyant cars from the '50s and '60s, and rare limited-production cars rounded out the field. This year the final selection of a Best of Show came down to two cars from the ‘Grand Classics’ class (1925-1948), a 1939 Mercedes-Benz 540K Roadster and a 1931 Cadillac 452 Fleetwood. In the end a tie-breaking vote decided the winner, giving the Caddy the victory.
