2016 Boca Raton Concours d'Elegance

Feburary, 2016 -- The 10th Annual Boca Raton Concours d'Elegance brought partly sunny skies, over 200 classic cars and motorcycles, and thousands of car enthusiasts to the manicured lawns of the Boca Raton Resort & Club. The vehicles ranged from the brass era, to European elegance, to muscle car classics, including, of course, a number of quality Packards, the featured marque of this year's Concours. Along with the spectators enjoying the Sunday show of chrome and colors, a dedicated group of judges made their rounds to select Best in Class winners, and ultimately the coveted Best of Show. Wayne Carini (Grand Marshal) and Jay Leno (Celebrity Judge) were also on the show field to provide their expertise to this very important task. Judging was based on the cars condition, authenticity/originality, and its appeal in the following areas: exterior, interior, engine, as well as its overall presentation, visual impact and the significance of the car. In addition, attendees had the opportunity to choose their favorite vehicle at the event. Top honors of the day -- the Best of Show and People's Choice -- went to:

Since these special cars are not daily drivers and are typically only driven during an event such as this, not suprisingly, some develop mechanical problems at the most inopportune times. For example, a 1931 Bentley 8 Litre Tourer very elegantly motored its way to the award stage, only to stall out as it was getting ready to make its grand exit. Not to worry! Resident mechanic, Jay Leno, who was on the ceremony stage at the time, promptly jumped to the Bentley's aid, lifted the side curtain hood, removed the gas sediment bulb assembly, and said "Yeah, it's getting gas. Must be a bad fuel pump." And with that quick diagnoses, the big Bentley was pushed off the stage. Here's a video of the Bentley driving up to receive its Best of Class award and Jay working under the hood. You gotta love a true car guy like Jay!
