Tires on the Mid-Engine Corvette and its Muscle Car Rivals

September, 2019

The rubber will definitely be hitting the road this fall as some of the hottest cars yet go on sale. Here are the tires that manufacturers have selected to control all that power. It could be quite a challenge.

The All New Mid-Engine Corvette

2020 Corvette

It’s what Vette lovers (and the whole sports car community) have been asking for years. When will the Corvette get a mid-engine? Well, the time is finally here! The new 2020 C8 edition, with 495 hp and 470 lb.-ft. torque, is currently rolling off the production lines in Bowling Green, but you can expect those performance numbers to significantly rise, as Chevy introduces special editions models in future years. The new Stringray Z51 edition wears Michelin Pilot Sport 4S on all four corners, 245/35ZR-19 up front and 305/30ZR-20 on the back.

The Baddest Shelby Yet – 2020 Shelby GT500

2020 Shelby Gt 500

Ford has launched the latest salvo in the Muscle Car Wars with the newly-released Shelby GT500. Its aggressive styling, including the largest snake emblem ever to grace the front grill, makes this one of the “baddest” looking cars on the road. But, to prove the GT500 isn’t “all show and no go,” the Mustang backs up its new image with 760 HP and 625 lb.-ft. of torque — the most ever for a FoMoCo production vehicle. The new Snake rolls on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires – 305/30ZR20 front, 315/30ZR20 rear.

Mopar Gone Mad – Dodge Hellcat Red Eye

2019 Dodge Hellcat Redeye 2

The guys at Mopar are obviously having way too much fun, as demonstrated by their latest creation, the Challenger Hellcat Red Eye. Using engine upgrades inspired by the Demon power plant, they’ve built another muscle car that will definitely light up the tires with 797 HP and 707 lb.-ft. of torque. If original factory equipment is selected when it’s time to change out the rubber, a set of Pirelli P-Zero tires will be on the shopping list, 305/35ZR20 all round for wide-body cars.
