Hot Rods – RVM Classics, The Richard V. Munz Collection
at Mecum Kissimmee 2025
Richard Munz had a passion for collecting cars, initially by amassing a number of European Exotics. However, in the 1990s he got back to his true passion, which was collecting early Ford V8s, specifically from 1932 – 1940. His particular specialty was collecting cars that were original and cars that had high accolades in the golden era of hot rodding. He also wanted cars that had their own special story.
Richard’s collection represent some of the most recognized examples in the hobby from the golden years of hot rods. Some are strictly show cars while others were built to set speed records. Much like today, the emphasis was on upping the horse power which at that time required a lot more creativity. Builders resorted to adapting racing equipment to their flathead V8s or swapping out to a big cubic inch Cadillac or similar luxury car engine.
The centerpiece of Richard’s collection is the Tommy Foster 1932 roadster. Built by Foster in the early 50s, it has a long resume of national show awards beginning in 1952 and has been featured on numerous rodding magazine covers. In 2007 it was selected as one of the all-time significant Deuce Ford hot rods at the Grand National Roadster Show.
At the 2025 Mecum Kissimmee auction, the Munz collection of 32 hot rods was sold with prices ranging from $30K to $220K. Not surprisingly, the Tommy Foster roadster was the most coveted car of the group, selling for $220,000.
