Hilton Head Car Club Showcase 2024
More than 20 car clubs and 280+ classic cars were on display at the at the Car Club Showcase on Saturday, November 2 at the Port Royal Golf Club in Hilton Head.
This year the Club Showcase featured several themes: German Vehicles, A Rolls-Royce meet with over 60 exceptional RR and Bentley cars, and a collection of America’s favorite and longest running pony car – the Mustang. Representing the years 1964 to present and a variety of body styles (Shelby, Saleen, Roush, etc.), the story of 60 years of the Mustang was told on the field.

Best of Show – 1966 Mustang A/FX Drag Racer, Owned by Nicholas Smith of Sturat, FL
This special Holman Moody-constructed Mustang is powered by a 427 CI Ford SOHC engine. Originally designed for possible use in NASCAR and one of the most advanced valvetrain layouts to emerge from any Detroit automaker in the 1960s, the “Cammer” was never a true production engine but was the engine of choice by top drag racers. The Mustang’s unusual lengthened body, which is an all-fiberglass structure mounted on a special tube chassis, gives it greater stability to handle the powerful motor. It represents the transition from production A/FX cars to “Funny Cars” in the late 60s. It was piloted by legendary racer, Gas Ronda, who pushed the car, running on a highly explosive blend of nitromethane and methanol, to an impressive 174.08 MPH performance record. BITD, this car appeared on the cover car of several magazines and newspapers.
