Goodguys Kentucky Nationals
It was full speed ahead for three days of automotive fun at the 2nd Goodguys Kentucky Nationals. The event was held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, where we saw lots of 4-wheeled classics* and even some 4-legged ones, as well. After all, we were at a horse park!
In addition to 1,500+ rods, classics, muscle cars, and trucks, there was a treasure trove of memoriabilia and automotive parts. Of course, if you were looking for a special classic, the Cars 4 Sale Corral had a diverse selection of makes and models from which to choose.
One of the leading highlights at any Goodguys event, besides, all the fantastic classic cars and trucks, is the “engine revin’, tire screechin’, race against the clock action” of the Autocross competitions. The six racing classes: Pro-X, Pro, Street Machine, Truck, Rod, and All American Sunday provides plenty of opportunity to watch cars and trucks of all makes and models maneuver the cone-laden race track. Interestingly, the top three competitors in the Pro-X class are from the same family. Josh Leisinger is in first place, his brother, Jared, is in second place, and their mother, Karen is in third.

Autocross
Autocross racing is always a popular event at Goodguys events. Competitors make
runs on the cone-laden track to see who can get the lowest elapsed time. Just don’t hit a cone, or two seconds will be added to your time. Since there’s only a few tenths of a second difference between 1st and 2nd place, there’s no room for mishaps. Here are some of the cars that were carving up the cones over the weekend.
Autocross, Pro-X Class
One of the interesting stories of Goodguys’ Autocross racing season in 2019 is the Leisinger crew. It’s truly a family affair with brothers Josh and Jared leading in the overall points, with their mother, Karen coming in third. At the Kentucky Nationals this year, Jared Leisinger posted the best time of the weekend, followed closely by Josh. However, Josh won the coveted ‘Shootout’ competition at the end of the day, so both had bragging rights for the trip back home. Here’s a look at this racing family.
In this video, Josh Leisinger talks about autocross racing, and the “ride” that gets him around the track, a specially-prepared ’64 Corvette. Then, hang on as we ride along during his winning Pro Class “Shootout” run.

*Events are open to American-powered rods, customs, classics, trucks, street machines, and muscle cars built no later than 1987. However, Goodguys welcomes all model years on Sundays, as long as they are American-powered.
