GAA Classic Cars Summer Auction 2025

July in Greensboro, NC has become known as the time for the annual summer auto auction held by GAA Classic Cars. This year, over 700 vehicles were offered for sale during three days of fast paced bidding at the company’s purpose-built facility called The Palace. This premier venue included highly desirable muscle cars, sports cars, cool trucks, and nostalgic cars of the fifties.
Headlining the event were multiple Ford GTs, one of the original 1965 Shelby GT350 Mustangs, a 1969 COPO Camaro, a million dollar show car built by Rad Rides by Troy (Great 8 finalist), and highly collectible vintage Corvettes. This year’s sale also included the Jimmy and Julianne Rawls collection, which consisted of 100 no-reserve, quality original classic cars and trucks. There was even an appearance by “The King,” Richard Petty, who was on hand to lend his support for a charity auction.

Auction Highlights
1965 Shelby GT 350
Even with the very successful launch of the Mustang in 1964 1/2, FoMoCo wanted a more performance oriented version, so they asked racer Carroll Shelby to add his DNA to the new pony. The results were a limited number of track ready race cars that have become one of the most sought after vehicles in the collector world. Not surprisingly, the Wimbledon White GT350 at the summer auction was the top sale.
Ford GTs
In 2005, Ford offered a limited production mid-engine sports car reminiscent of the iconic race car, the Ford GT40, which won LeMans four years in a row between 1966 and 1969. These cars have become highly collectible and are always exciting vehicles on the auction block. Four of these special cars were on the docket for this sale. One red 2005 which was part of the Jim and Julianne Rawls collection and a trio of Ford GTs, one each in red, white, and blue. The winning bidder selected the 2006 Performance White GT (13 miles from new). Also, a second bidder later purchased the Midnight Blue GT.
High-End Restomods
A growing number of high-end restomods are appearing regularly at classic car auctions. 1957 Chevy Bel Air convertibles and 1969 Camaros are a common starting point for these builds as was the case at this year’s summer sale. These are much admired body styles that have been upgraded to modern drive trains, custom interiors, and amenities far beyond that offered on the original production cars. This years summer sale also included an ultimate show car, a 1956 Buick ‘Nail Head’ built by Rad Rides by Troy, one of the top builder in the country. It is reported that over $1M was spent of creating this one-of-a-kind Great 8 finalist.
Jim and Julianne Rawls Collection
Jimmy and Julianne have been collecting classic cars for over 40 years with emphasis on originality, mechanically sound, and in some case, a vehicle that had an eye-catching color. Even though each one has a story, they had decided it was time to turnover the care of 100 of their collection to new owners. On the day before the auction, Jimmy and Julianne told us about how they became collectors and about several of the vehicles that would be crossing the auction block. Special thanks to both for taking time to share this with us.
Richard Petty Appearance for Victory Junction Charity Auction
Seven time NASCAR Cup champion, Richard Petty, will always be admired for his racing accomplishments and his engagements with his fans. It is always a major event when he is ‘in the house’ as was the case for the charity car auction of a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix (#43). With Richard’s help the auction, plus contributions from the audience, raised a total of $166,000 for Victory Junction . This charity helps children with disabilities and serious medical conditions experience fun activities that would otherwise be impossible.
